Glad I found this. It&#39;s SO hard to find information on how to deal with parents in old age. <br /><br />In my case, I am nearly 34 and my mum just turned 74. She moved in 9 years ago when my dad died. I didn&#39;t think! I did what I thought what was best for her at the time. She moved in and took over my house and treated me like a kid. I was 25 then and had been married for 3 years. It was a big re-adjustment and the marriage started suffering immediately. <br /><br />Nine years later and after a very tough year when my marriage nearly ended I exploded. A lot of the resentment came out and I started saying things I&#39;d never said and standing up to myself to the point that I had to tell her to go. It was all very traumatic. <br /><br />For all these years I did my best and my best was not good enough. She&#39;s healthy, she&#39;s fit and yet chose to be around us all the time. She&#39;d tell me off for not being a decent house wife, for getting up later, she kept nagging at me about my husband&#39;s behaviour, she&#39;d expect to be taken out instead of finding her own friends, etc. <br /><br />It doesn&#39;t matter that all my friends tell me I&#39;ve done all I can, it doesn&#39;t matter that all her friends and family (she only communicates with them by phone as she almost never goes to her home) tell her it&#39;s not fair that she&#39;s here all the time, especially after the severe crisis my husband and I had...All this doesn&#39;t help the guilt I feel for not being a good daughter and it&#39;s eating me inside!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
