I was happy to see that there were some people out protesting the Kansas City presence of the Cult of Scientology today. They were highly visible and vocal, out on the corner of 39th and Main, just across the street from the Scientology offices. Good people! I have written about this Scientology stuff before (here's a prior post with more information); it's no small thing, it isn't just a joke, and it isn't harmless. It certainly should not be called a "church," and should not have tax-exempt status in the USA.
Why do they wear those masks? Because the scientologists have been known to pursue and viciously harass those who dare to expose them for what they are.
