Enroute to APS Meeting in Chicago

Association for Psychological ScienceImage via WikipediaToday I am driving to Chicago with my research assistant, grad student, and co-author, Ian Butterbaugh. Ian and I will be presenting research related to the Mindfulness-Based Wellness program at the annual meeting of the Association for Psychological Science (APS). Although we will, of course, try hard to be cool about it all... the truth is that we are both VERY excited about it! I have spent most of my life as a psychologist in the quiet back-roads of private practice, not at all involved in the bigger world of psychological research at the level of APS... so this is all just as new to me, as it is to Ian.

I'm taking my camera on this trip (of course!), and my computer, and so I hope to do a bit of blogging, with photos, throughout the meeting. In addition to the meeting itself, Ian and I are delighted that we will get to spend time with Roger Thomson and Mary Connors, psychologists at Integrative Health Partners (they blog at Live Mindfully). Roger is a Zen Buddhist priest, so I have a lot of questions for him about using meditation and mindfulness in clinical practice... and Mary's new book, Symptom-Focused Dynamic Psychotherapy looks very intriguing, and I'll get to ask her more about her work.
