Driving home from Lake of the Ozarks to Kansas City, you can either go most of the way on the interstate (boring!), or you can take the back roads. On a pretty day, I'll always choose the back roads. Today was gorgeous, lots of dogwoods and redbuds still in bloom all over the roadsides. And it's calf season! Not far from Sedalia, MO, there is a field inhabited by longhorn cattle and their babies; I stopped to take some pictures. They were curious about me, but not enough to come all the way over to the fence.
Also not very far outside Sedalia, I drove past a threesome of human beings walking along the roadside. All three wore camouflage clothing, and they were walking three abreast, holding hands: two adults on the outside carrying rifles (or maybe shotguns?) over their shoulders, and a child on the inside (apparently unarmed). I have no idea what they were up to; but I didn't think it wise to stop and photograph them... Another good reason to always take the back roads. You just never know what you're going to see.
