A couple of new things to take a look at today:
One is the remarkable video of Dr. Kay Redfield Jamison, a very prominent psychologist, talking about her own experience with bipolar disorder. She is very candid, even painfully so. Everyone should watch this; even if you are not a psychotherapist, or training to become one, it is nearly impossible to live in this world without knowing someone with bipolar disorder. It is a widely misunderstood condition, and this video should go a long way toward educating the public.
Second is the strange article in NYT about John McCain and his contacts with a lobbyist (it is emphasized that this was a “female” lobbyist... get it?), 8 years ago. Many (not all of them are political supporters of McCain) have pointed out that the article is non-news, filled with nothing but suggestion and innuendo. David Brooks, also of the NYT, today took note in his column of the ensuing furor, and offered a look inside the McCain camp, in which we see a rift, and a couple of guys who apparently took time out of their work for McCain to do furious and vindictive battle with each other. One of them was “forced out last summer,” and it is suggested that perhaps he has been the source of bad news for McCain. This, he denies. It’s a pretty ugly mess, in my opinion.
