Mindfulness and Mental Health

On my recent retreat at IMS I was delighted to meet Chris Mace, an English psychiatrist whose recent book, Mindfulness and Mental Health (Routledge) was previously unknown to me. He had a copy of the book with him, and I didn’t wait long after getting home to order one for myself. It finally arrived yesterday, and I began reading it last night. What a marvelous contribution it is to the field of mindfulness, meditation, the sciences of mind and brain, and the practice of teaching and treating individuals using mindfulness-based methods! Dr. Mace displays comprehensive knowledge of both the Buddhist bases of mindfulness practice, and its contemporary applications; and he provides excellent and even-handed reviews of various aspects of the current literature, in a very engaging style. I am intrigued to find that he also discusses topics that may be related to mindfulness, but are seldom encountered in the literature to date, e.g., Csikszentmihalyi’s concept of “flow,” and Cloninger’s model of mental health.

Last time I checked, you can get this book at Amazon. com here , but only by way of secondary sellers. Chris said he is working to remedy that.

If you are working in the field of mindfulness-based interventions, you will find this book very rewarding.

  1. I did purchase a book you recommended entitled, "Mindfulness In Plain English." It is an easy read and it has good information. It explains mindfulness in a way that is easy to grasp. Thanks for the recommendation.
